The Country Club of Missouri

Golf Superintendent Letter

Golfers,

This time of year things tend to be very hectic in the grounds department. Maintenance operations are in high gear and project work is mixed in as time and resources
permit. The golf course is very busy and it seems like the next big event is always right around the corner.

The month of August is sure to be filled with challenges, and as usual, most of them are sure to be weather related. The heat and humidity will require us to watch the course more carefully. This will include cooling greens by various methods. Please be on the lookout for people hand-watering greens. These workers do have the right of way, and they are trained to complete their job in a timely fashion. With that being said, I am pleased with the overall condition of the golf course at this point in the season. It’s a real tribute to the hard work and dedication of our grounds staff that the golf course looks as good as it does.

Please be reminded that we will begin aerating fairways at the end of July and this could last into the month of August, depending on weather. This maintenance practice has proven to be very necessary in order to relieve compaction due to cart traffic much of the season. As a continuation of our project goals, we are making preparations to replace the old drain system in the pond on #4, and planting several more trees on the golf course, which will complete our tree plan. Dry conditions are required for theses projects in order to minimize the impact to the golf course.

Although the newly added tee box on hole #6 (see page 2 for pictures) and the renovated tee on #17 will be open within the month, our work is not complete. As with any
sodded zoysia tee, we will continue to fine-tune the surfaces with a variety of methods such as topdressing, mowing and fertilizing to achieve the desired appearance.

Thank you for your patience while the maintenance staff continues to help make your golf course the most well-
maintained golf course in Central Missouri. Please contact me at rnsears@ccmo.net with further questions.
